Hey mama! Hanging photos in your home can be such a process, which is why we so often put it off! But my goal for you is to get those photos of your adorable kiddos off your devices and into your home. We take so many photos, let’s enjoy them! Here are 5 quick tips to get those photos off your device in just a few hours!
1.) Decide on One Space . 5 mins
To curb overwhelm, decide on just ONE wall/area to start with. Which area of your home can use a pick-me-up, or which will be the easiest to tackle first?
2.) Pick a Framing Option + Theme . 30 mins
Head on over to Pinterest for visual inspiration. I’ve put together a board on “How to Display Your Photography” to help you get started. Start pinning favorites to see what catches your eye.
You want to look for these 3 things:
• Style of frames— ie: thick brass frame, an acrylic frame, a reclaimed wood… When in doubt, a thin black frame is an easy starting point and flows well with any decor.
• Orientation — ie: a gallery wall of 10 frames, 1 oversized print, a set of 3 hung vertically in a row…
• Theme of the photos displayed — ie: black-and-white photos, portraits of the kids faces, muted tones from your beach vacation…
There are so many choices! What strikes you, and what will work for the space you picked?
3.) Map out your walls . 20 mins
Gather tape and large paper (use art paper, cardboard boxes, tape a few pieces together—remember, no excuses!). Cut out the paper to the sizes of the frames you are considering and adjust if needed. Don’t skip this part! For the artwork I recently framed in my house, I started with 3 smaller frames (at right), but after viewing 2-3 options on the walls, I decided I liked the 2 larger frames best (final framed images, far right). I am so glad I mapped it out, rather than ordering and being disappointed!
For reference, here is a list of popular frame and photo print sizes.
4.) Find Your Photos . 30 mins
Now it’s time to dig through your photos! You want your photos to “flow” together so the composition and tone of the images should be the same. Open all the images you think will work, or save them all to your desktop. Seeing them together will help you make choices to which ones will work best.
5.) Edit + Order . 20 mins
Crop, color correct + ensure your photos are the correct size. For photography prints, I use mPix, because of their quick service with great quality.
For frames, Pinterest will often direct you to a link if you find a unique frame you have your heart set on. Try Amazon for simple frames, I recently purchased acrylic frames there.
I would love to see how you are enjoying your photos in your home! #MyStoryInPhotos on Instagram — see you there!
